Physical Caravan Security

Touring caravan insurance policies require a minimum level of caravan security. In the case of Caravanwise, NIG requires that when the caravan is detatched from the towing vehicle and unattended then it must be secured by a hitch lock or a wheel clamping device.

No form of physical security provides a guarantee that your caravan will not be stolen. They do however act as a deterent and can slow down a thief sufficiently to allow them to be scared off by activity in your house etc.

As you will be required to fit at least one of these devices you may as well choose a good one. That is one that has been thoroughly tested and which, when compared with other similar devices, are able to withstand an extended attack by an experienced thief. In tests published by the leading caravan magazine, Practical Caravan, Bulldog and Milenco products perform better than most.

Stabilisers
Damaged caused by losing control on the motorway is, thankfully, relatively rare. We have however identified a higher than average incidence of catastrophic accidents on the motorway amongs inexperienced caravan owners who do not have a stabliliser fitted.

Bulldog, http://www.bulldog-security-products.co.uk produce a simple spring aided stabiliser and Alco offer a more expensive model with integral hitch lock which is available from all major caravan dealers.
